Anyone driving betw[more...]een Vancouver and Whistler on Saturday can expect delays as thousand of cyclists hit the road for the seventh annual Whistler GranFondo.
About 4,000 riders are expected to make the 122 kilometre trip.
The first wave of riders leaving Stanley Park around 6 a.m. PT Saturday will take a detour up Cypress Bowl Road, adding on about 30 kilometres before rejoining the main route.
Rolling closures will start with the Stanley Park causeway and the northbound lanes of the Lions Gate Bridge at 5:30 a.m. PT. and continue through West Vancouver to the Upper Levels Highway. The closures will then hit the Sea-to-Sky Highway to Whistler. The roads will reopen at around 4:30 p.m PT when the ride officially ends.
Drivers will still be able to drive the route, but should expect significant delays, particularly in spots where vehicle traffic will be limited to alternating lanes in one direction at a time.
Full details of the closures can be found on the GranFondo Whistler website.
